Women of Craft
Michigan has long been celebrated for the quantity—and quality—of its craft beer and breweries. What are less recognized are the women involved in this vibrant and passionate scene. My entry celebrates the unique women in Michigan’s craft beer community, giving them some well-deserved, and perhaps overdue, acknowledgement of their contribution to the industry. Getting past the traditional “brewer’s outfit” of headbands, rubber boots, and safety glasses they wear every day, my photography aims to show their individuality, personality, and natural beauty. These are not glamour shots, but rather capture each of these distinctive, knowledgeable women out of their element, giving the viewer a glimpse into the heart of these ladies and a deeper understanding of why they do what they do.
WHO I AM
Camera in one hand, beer in the other.
Up close and personal.
I work primarily in documentary, portrait and editorial photography. During the last three years, my main focus has been in the Michigan craft beer community working with many breweries in the state and organizations like the BeerCity USA campaign and MIbeers. I also own/operate one of the top websites for Michigan Beer News - MittenBrew.com My editorial work ranges from the hyper-local foodie magazine Roadbelly to community involved reporting for UIX Grand Rapids/Rapid Growth Media. Covering the vibrant craft beer scene is not just my job, but a personal passion.
